Industrial electricity prices

Modelled industrial electricity prices since 2020

The modelled industrial electricity price is made up of the following components: surcharges, taxes, network tariffs, fees, distribution costs, margin and procurement costs. The calculation is as follows:

  • Data on surcharges, taxes, network tariffs and fees are collected in the annual monitoring and assumed to be constant; adjustments made during the year are taken into account directly. Reductions (for example in network tariffs, electricity tax, concession fees and surcharges) for industrial companies that are entitled to them are taken into account in the relevant price.
  • Distribution costs and margin are estimated at about 5% of the industrial electricity price.
  • Procurement costs are calculated monthly based on the procurement strategies of the electricity suppliers as stated in the monitoring survey. The prices for various electricity products (eg day-ahead, monthly and quarterly products, annual futures) are weighted according to their average share of overall procurement.

The industrial electricity price trends with and without reductions are shown in the form of an index in which January 2021 is used as the base month. The index values are calculated by dividing the modelled price of a month by the price of the base month and multiplying by 100.

Further information about the modelling used is available (in German) in the User guide.
