Slight rise in electricity prices for industrial customers

-

The gas and electricity price indices for household customers are nearly stable in March from the previous month.

The modelled industrial electricity prices were up slightly in February. The price for industrial customers without reductions was 18.25 ct/kWh in February, up from 17.99 ct/kWh the month before. The modelled price for industrial customers with the highest possible discounts was 11.95 ct/kWh in February compared to 11.69 ct/kWh in January. Higher procurement costs drove the price trend.

The index for new household electricity customers is at 108.2, 8.2 percentage points above the base month of January 2021. In February it was 108 and in January, 109.2.

The price index for new household gas customers shows a small rise to 178.6 from 177.2 the previous month, whereas for existing customers it dropped slightly to 178.3 from 179 in February.

The Bundesnetzagentur publishes several price indices for electricity and gas each month, showing the expected price trends in comparison to January 2021. They are released at the beginning of the month, giving household customers, for example, the opportunity to check in good time if it might be worth switching provider.
