Industrial electricity prices significantly lower in March

-

Household customer price indices for electricity and gas are also falling

In March, the industrial electricity prices modelled by the Bundesnetzagentur were well below those of the previous month. Industrial customers with the maximum price reductions paid 10.46 ct/kWh (February: 11.95 ct/kWh). The price without reductions was 16.75 ct/kWh (February: 18.25 ct/kWh).

The relevant indices for industrial customers without price reductions were 93.63 points (February: 101.08), which is below the prices of the base month of January 2021. The price index with reductions was 147.97 points (February: 169.12).
The main reason for the decrease in prices was the drop in procurement costs.

For April, the price index decreased to 104.7 points (February: 108.0) for new household electricity customers and to 112.1 points (March: 112.8) for existing customers. The price indices went down slightly for household gas customers as well. They fell to 170.5 points (March: 178.6) for new customers and to 177.4 points (March: 178.3) for existing customers.

The Bundesnetzagentur publishes several price indices for electricity and gas each month, showing the expected price trends in comparison to January 2021. They are released at the beginning of the month, giving household customers, for example, the opportunity to check in good time if it might be worth switching provider.
