New on SMARD: energy mix of Germany's foreign trade
Electricity is not colour-coded. Once electricity has been produced and fed into the grid, it is not easily possible to say where it has come from or which energy source has been used to produce it. Nevertheless, it is possible to work out the energy mix of the electricity that Germany trades on the European internal electricity market using calculations and modelling.
So far this year, Germany has imported 56,924 GWh of electricity (as at 31 October 2024); 49.8% of this electricity came from renewable sources. Germany has exported 29,874 GWh of electricity so far this year, with 67.3% coming from renewable sources.
The Energy data compact section now includes a "Foreign trade" category with detailed charts showing the energy mix of Germany's imports and exports each month and each year. There are also charts showing the electricity imported from and exported to individual countries each month.
Detailed information about the calculation model used can be found here.
