2026 another record year for PV feed-in

-

As in 2025 and 2024, a new record high for electricity fed in by photovoltaic installations will be reached this year as well. The 73.8 TWh generated in all of 2025 had already been exceeded in September.

The steady expansion of solar PV as an energy source means that the amount of electricity fed into the general supply network from PV installations is rising continuously. In nine of the past 10 years, the previous year’s figure was surpassed each time; only in 2023 did PV feed-in fall slightly short of the 2022 level.

A new record high will also be reached in 2026. This is already certain now that the third quarter has ended, as 75.9 TWh of electricity has been fed in from PV installations to date this year, more than in all of 2025.

In addition to the fact that feed-in capacity was expanded, this year’s weather was also a contributing factor. The summer of 2026 in particular was exceptionally sunny, resulting in high levels of solar feed-in.

What is striking is that in every year since 2024, the total PV feed-in for the respective previous year had already been exceeded by September. This was also the case in 2022 and 2018.

The developments on the electricity market will be looked at in more detail in the forthcoming quarterly article for the third quarter of 2026.
